Other People Within SHHS

Hello everyone!

So last week we shared some information surrounding YOU, specifically on taking your “ME” time. This week we are going to switch it up and talk about other people and what they do in relation to your position as a RezLife staff!

Front Desk:

The front desk staff is your go-to people for any non-Rezlife specific support, and will most likely be the non-RezLife staff you interact with most often.  They are a huge source of support with facilities issues or with addressing emergencies.  For example, you would always let the front desk know if a fire alarm is going off or an ambulance is on its way, you get keys from them for breaker issues, and as RezLife staff

Housekeeping:

Housekeeping staff are the ones who make sure our living environment is as clean and tidy as possible! That does not mean residents can leave a mess around, in fact, make sure your residents understand that and respect all public property and space! Get to know your building’s housekeeper early on and encourage your residents to do the same! By establishing a relationship, it makes communication easier, and allows residents to better understand their own responsibility to their living space as well.

Your housekeepers are also huge support in ensuring your residents’ wellbeing; for example, you may not have known someone on your floor is ill and puking in the washrooms, but your housekeeper would find that out and can relay the information to you.

Building Services:

Building Services staff are the ones who addresses facility issues and responds to your maintain requests. Usually you would request their assistance through an online maintenance request form (as staff, you get to fill in the online forms for communal areas as well), or reach them through the front desk for something more urgent. You rarely need to contact the Building Services staff directly, but if you do, then you would most likely connect with them by emailing your area’s Building Services Manager.

UBC Food Services:

The food services staff in residence includes any staff, servers, cashiers or chef in charge of the dining hall or takes cares of the mini marts!  You are more likely to interact with Food Services staff if you live in Traditional Style residence with a dining hall available.  In Traditional Style residence, if you want to order drinks for a program, you fill in a Food Services order form and submit it to the dining hall office.

So as you can see, many other SHHS staff besides RezLife is present in the different areas daily to address day to day situations and provide their services. It is a collaborative effort to ensure that residence experience is as good as it is!

Until next time!
